Welcome to pottington road

Good afternoon ladies and gentleman and welcome to another great National 3 Southwest encounter as The Chiefs prepare to take on Wiltshire's very own Chippenham. We extend a warm welcome to their players, coaches, committee members and supporters who have made the long trip to North Devon and hope you have an enjoyable time here at Pottington Road.

We would also like to thank our sponsors Brewer Harding & Rowe and Torch Farm & Equinem for today's game. Thanks for all your tremendous support over the years which is hugely appreciated by the club and has been extremely valuable in getting us to where we are today.

Wow what a crazy month march was. It began with that ten try thriller against Bournemouth which we one by just one point 32-31 and whilst Exmouth was steam rolling Cleve, Lydney unexpectedly lost 38-0 to Ivybridge. This effectively put the title race firmly in Barnstaple and Exmouth's hands and edged closer to that mouth watering finale at Exmouth later this month. The following week saw Exmouth beat Ivybridge and take over at the top of the League and the signs were ominous for Barnstaple as Exmouth looked to have the easier run in with the majority of their remaining games at home.

Then March decided to throw another spanner into the works which saw Exmouth drop points as they lost to The Old Cents 28-25. Barnstaple went to Hornets knowing it was going to be a tough encounter as the home fixture resulted in a 7-7 draw. But The Chiefs were magnificent and in the first half a Matt Gohl off load let in Luke Berry for another fine try and Barnstaple went in at half 0-5 up. The second half belonged to JP as he secured the win with 5 penalty kicks and The chiefs ran out winners 10-20. With Exmouth losing this now meant that both teams are on equal points with Exmouth ahead on points difference only.

It is increasingly looking like a major showdown between Barnstaple and Exmouth to decide who are to be champions this season on April 23rd at Exmouth. We want as many supporters there as possible to bring the Barum spirit to Exmouth and drown out the home support. We are looking at taking bookings for coach seats to Exmouth which will only cost £7 per seat for the final league game of the season At present we have 2 Coaches going and about 40 spaces available so, if you think you may want a spot on one of the Coaches drop us a private message on the clubs facebook page or speak to Verity White or Bob Collins,

Finally on the 16th April at our final home game of the season see's the return of the very popular Beer Festival which went down a storm last year check the website for details.

Good luck to both teams today and for everyone here lets enjoy a great day of rugby and feel the Barum spirit, see you all afterwards at the bar.

Thank You to our volunteers

Barnstaple Rugby Club President, Trevor Edwards, hosted a lunchtime gathering for the unpaid volunteers that do vital work at the club – mostly unseen. The duties the volunteers perform range from grounds maintenance, painting, building repairs and improvements, managing the gate on match days to cleaning the windows all carried out with a smile – usually! Club stalwarts Mark and Bruce Dimelow donated the food with fresh fish and chips (not forgetting the mushy peas) served from Bruce’s mobile van The Whiddon Wagon. The President acknowledged the essential contribution the volunteers do and thanked in particular the younger members Lewis Joce and Shaun East who help with providing one of the best playing surfaces in our league.

Welcome all,

Since we last met, we had an end to end thriller against Bournemouth, and a cracking away performance against hornets, two wins against two top half of the table sides, very pleasing.

It's been refreshing having two games on dry tracks, allowing sides to attack and express themselves. Our faces light up when the mouldies come out but there is a fear that the lungs won't cope (especially yours truly....and the front five I'm sure).

Today I hope will be entertaining, especially if the weather is set fair. I hope the lads will continue to defend with enthusiasm and honesty, and are clinical in attack. Please remember to pop along with friends and family to our last home game of the season (16th April) there is lots planned for the day and I'm sure the lads will want to finish the season at home with a flourish.Thank you for your fantastic support, it is appreciated and I look forward to the Barum spirit this afternoon.
