Welcome to pottington road

Good afternoon everyone and prepare yourselves for what promises to be a thunderous clash of two in form teams in today's Devon Seniors Cup quarter final. Today's opponents are Brixham and a warm welcome to their players, coaches, committee members and supporters to Pottington Road and hope you enjoy yourselves toady.

Of course both teams have started well this season with Brixham narrowly beating us at their own ground scoring the winning points with minutes left to play. Brixham have also won 3 and lost 1 so far this season and stand 3rd in the league and are in form. If today's game is anything like the one both teams played earlier this season we are in for a real treat today

Well what a start to the campaign we have had definitely one of the best Septembers i can recall. Three local derby home wins and bonus points away to Brixham has put us at the top of National 3 Southwest, Last weeks win against Newton Abbot was particularly pleasing not just because in was Newton Abbot but the performance and scoreline really did show how well the Chiefs are progressing. The game was much more even in the first half with Barnstaple leading 17 - 11 with tries from Luke Berry and Winston James but no one i think were expecting the fantastic second half where tries from Luke Berry, JP and two from Linford Brock secured a 45-11 win.

This was The Chiefs widest winning margin against a Devon rival since 2007 when we secured the Western Counties Title against Devonport. It has also been done with a relatively young side with injuries sidelining some notable players. Its great to see the youngsters stepping up with Adam Lloyd and Sam Roberts in particular doing really well at this level. Mind you there is a long way to go yet and plenty on the road but seeing us on the pages of Western Morning News was priceless.

There was also good news for The Development XV on Saturday as they beat Newton Abbot 2nd's 17-15 in a very close fought game. With the injuries affecting all levels of the club a number of colts were making their senior debuts. Newton Abbot started the game more briskly scoring the first try but with tries from Brad Drew and Kevin Angell in the first half and kicks from Shaun East and Henry Meredith Barnstaple secured the win. Congratulations as well to Max Lees, Tom Carslake, Ben Sharples and Joe Earlam for their senior debuts and we look forward to seeing more of you this season.

Steven PERRYPez's Ponderings

Hello all,

Today is the opening round of the Devon cup, which I know the lads are very excited about. The club has a rich history and I know the players want to add to it. The challenge is great, as Brixham are a solid outfit who are looking I'm sure to retain the cup.

I'm looking forward to seeing this young exciting Barum side selected today, I hope they all enjoy their game and produce performances of high enthusiasm, physicality, as well as doing the simple things well. It is also an opportunity to claim the shirt, and put pressure on the coaching staff to select you.

Thank you for your continued support, it is appreciated, and the lads performance feeds of the Barum Spirit and Noise.
