welcome to pottington road

Good afternoon ladies and gentleman and welcome to the final home fixture of the regular National 3 Southwest season as The Chiefs prepare to take on The Old Patesians this afternoon. We extend a warm welcome to their players, coaches, committee members and supporters to Pottington Road and hope you have an enjoyable time here today

We would also like to thank our sponsors Wrights Property, Westerly BMW and Chichester Homes for today's game. Thanks for all your tremendous support over the years which is hugely appreciated by the club and has been extremely valuable in getting us to where we are today.

Last week saw The Chiefs visit Old Centralians in what was an apprehensive visit as just 3 weeks earlier they caused an upset beating Exmouth by 3 points. Luke Berry started the ball rolling kicking the first penalty then later scoring a try from a Steve Perry pass. Then Winston notched up his 19th try of the season scoring from a lineout drive which saw the Chiefs lead at half time 16-9. The second half was Toby Williams time to shine scoring a brace of tries the first a terrific individual try fending off two defenders to go over the line, the second coming off the back of a great tackle by Linford and the resulting turnover by Chris Lowrie, Toby who in the last play of the game, broke two more tackles to score his second try and secure the bonus point for The Chiefs.

Finally we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the players and coaches for what has been an incredible season for Barnstaple. Here we are with a chance next week to lift the league title and play National 2 rugby next season. It has been an entertaining, exhilarating and at times tough season to witness, so thank you for this and long may it continue. Thanks also goes to all the volunteers whose dedication and unseen work lays the foundations for such a successful season. So much has to happen to make Saturday afternoon a success and these are the people that makes that happen.

Last but not least the biggest thanks goes to our incredible supporters who have been amazing and have often lifted the team towards the end of the game with the Barum Spirit in full voice to help give the lads that final ounce of energy and determination to win this season. We really hope you can all come to Exmouth next week and bring the Barum spirit there drowning out the home support it is going to be a fabulous day. They say the English cricket's Barmy Army is special well let me tell you the Barum Army is so much more than that.

Good luck to both teams today and lets have an memorable home finale as we enjoy today's beer festival and rugby. See you all at Exmouth next week.

Steven PERRYPez's Ponderings

Welcome all,

Firstly I'd like to thank you for your continued fantastic support, it lifts the lads performance and makes Pottington Road a special place, long may it continue.

I realise we have two games in the regular season to go and both will be defining but as this is the last time i will write to you this season, I thought I'd reflect on the year so far. A gruelling preseason, brought the lads together as well as improving their conditioning which has definitely impacted on performance and I thank Swaler for his time and effort which has paid dividends this year.
We have performed well away, which has not been the case in previous years, showing that the boys are motivated intrinsically and by the respect they have for each other. Our defence at present is the best in the league, which is very satisfying, showing grit and determination and a willingness to work hard for each other which are the foundations of a good side.
The boys have enjoyed each other's company and the socials have created a great buzz, I've been disappointed to miss them but will be looking forward to this evening after our game today. It has been a squad effort, key players have been away or injured for periods of time but we have had the depth in players to grind out results and that is a pleasing thing and necessary when participating in a very physical league.
I hope the lads put in a performance today that reflects our season. With characteristics like honesty, hard work and selflessness shining through. Looking forward to hearing you in full voice.

Steve
