Good afternoon and welcome to the final game of 2016 as The Chiefs play host to Redruth in the final National 2 South fixture of the year. We extend a warm welcome to their players, coaches, committee members and the many supporters who have made the trip to Pottington Road today, we hope you thoroughly enjoy yourselves today.
We would like to also thank our sponsors for today Loosemore's who's continuing support for Barnstaple Rugby Club has been awesome and has contributed immensely to our continued success as a club.
Well what a fantastic year 2016 has been for the club and our congratulations go to the players and coaches for what has been an incredible year for Barnstaple probably our best which despite a difficult start in National 2 South has ended with 5 home wins, maybe six after today, This all bodes well for what might be possible in 2017.
Of course none of this would be possible without our army of volunteers whose dedication and unseen work lays the foundations for such a successful year. So much has to happen to make Saturday afternoon a success and these are the people that makes that happen. Maintenance of the grounds and buildings, stocking of the bar, kit washing and general admin duties are just some of the things done enthusiastically by our volunteers every week. All the volunteer coaches and trainers who organise hundreds of juniors every Sunday morning, The gateman dedicated to ensuring that everyone coming here today is greeted with a friendly smile and Tony Wasley's team of grounds men who work tirelessly to give us such a magnificent playing surface week after week and especially this past month or so which has seen some horrendous weather overcome by the ground staff.
Lastly 2016 belongs to you the 16th Man our incredible supporters who have been amazing and have often lifted the team towards the end of the game with the Barum Spirit in full voice. The Barum Army has been immense this year and to quote Henley Hawks last week "However Barnstaple, driven on by the vociferous crowd, reminiscent of the famous Shed at Kingsholm, Gloucester, retaliated", shows how respected the Pottington Road faithful are becoming to visiting teams and how important you are to our success.
Good luck to both teams and let’s finish this year with a banging display of rugby and long lasting celebrations through the night. Merry Christmas everyone and I can't wait for 2017 to get underway.
First things first.........Christmas wishes to all our Barum players and supporters and very best for the New Year.
So we currently sit third in the league with a game in hand and look forward to our away game this weekend against Brixham. The Development squad has a foundation of a regular seven guys who have played every game so far this season. The remaining squad has been made up of a further 31 players who drop in and out depending on commitments. That being said, we regularly get between 15-20 at training on a Thursday, this has given us a grounding for the success we've achieved so far.As in most clubs it's difficult to put a second team out, however, we have fulfilled every fixture to date and this is mainly due to the hard work put into the phone calls by the Captain Ben Sharples and our No.8 Nigel East - a big thanks to both of them.
Of particular note, the 2nd team is looking to be an introductory to senior rugby for the Colts of the club. A closer liaison is taking place between the 2s and the Colts and I look forward to the second part of the season and being able to bring on young talent within the club.
On a personal note having only been with the club since August this year, I can honestly say that Barnstaple RFC is the most welcoming and friendly of clubs that I have ever been a part of. From the Chairman, through the 1st team coaching staff, to players and supporters, the club has been incredibly hospitable and supportive. I look forward to the second half of the season and the success that this will hopefully bring
Best wishes to you all, Bruce South, 2nd Team Coach

Most of you know that the former Barnstaple captain Nelly Webber no plays for Redruth although he if not fit for todays game with thought how nice it would be to have todays collection going to a cause very close to his heart.
As most of you will know, Nelly's girlfriend Carly was involved in an accident which left her paralyzed, while Nelly was our club captain in 2011.
She's overcome many hurdles since then, and Nelly and Carly were married last year which featured on ITV last week.
However, Carly still needs significant care to help her live as much of a normal day to day life as possible. For that reason we're holding a collection today in aid of the Carly Taylor Trust. If you're able to give we will have volunteers with buckets around the ground today.
The Juniors have had a great year.
