Welcome to Pottington Road

Good afternoon and welcome to the final home game of the 2014/2015 season and what a day we have in store for you, a beer festival, 3 games of rugby and tonight some fantastic live music all thanks to Oli Mason and his team for organising today's festivities. We also welcome National 3 Southwest Champions Redingensians today. Congratulations them on winning the league, Good luck to you all next season and we hope you have an enjoyable day and please sample all the beers you can handle.

We would like to thank our sponsors today Wrights Property and Torch Vets. Today’s match ball sponsors are Westerly Barnstaple, Thanks for all your tremendous support over the years which is hugely appreciated by the club and we look forward to seeing you next season.

Now to the main event as the Chiefs take on league champions Redingensians who have had a great season losing only 3 games so far and gave Exmouth a thumping 37 -7 last week. The Chiefs will be looking to spoil the party though having had a great win at the Quins last week. A Winston James hat trick and 15 points from the boot of Jordan Petherbridge contributed to a thumping 19-50 win the biggest away win for 2 seasons. It was Barnstaple’s fourth away win of the season and, coupled to a draw away to Old Reds, represented their best set of results on the road for three seasons and a win today will finish the season off nicely.

Before that happens we have a local derby match as the Buccaneers take on Bideford. This will also be Andy Staff’s last game as the Buccaneers manager so a big thank you for all your hard work and let’s make it a big win for him today

The final game today will see our under 13’s take on Weston Super-mare. So good luck lads and make it 3 wins for Barnstaple RFC today.

The Colts are away at Sidmouth today, and even if they lose (which we hope they don’t) they will be playing in the final of the league. Which will be played at Sandy Park, Exeter on Sunday 2nd May. Check the website for further details. But I’m sure you will all raise a glass to them and congratulate them in all they have achieved this season.

You might remember last season we were very honoured to have be award the David Smith Memorial Cup. The 11 SW Group panel of referees vote for the club who they think have been the best hosts – before, during and after the game and it is with great pleasure that I can inform you that we have won this again this year.  The David Smith memorial Cup will be present to the club before KO today.

So let the drunken revelry begin and have a great day everyone see you next season

Pez's Ponderings

Steven PERRYThank you for your fantastic support this season, we are so lucky to have you and I hope that we continue to thrive on your energy and deliver exciting rugby.

Next Saturday the 25th of April, a club XV will play a Mark Berry select side to acknowledge Marks contribution to the club. The game will feature club legends, current and future first teamers, so please pop down to what will be a great occasion.
I am over the moon that he will be continuing with us again next year, as he will not be replaceable when he hangs up his boots.

I'd like to Congratulate Redingensians on their promotion and I wish them luck in the league above. They have been the standout side.

The year has been a building one, we have improved away from home and I played in a Devon Derby win, we are also becoming tighter as a group which bodes well for the future. The squad is developing and as a group, we have high expectations of ourselves next year. The proof will be in our actions on the training ground as they will reflect in our performance.

Once again, thank you

Steve
